North Metro Miracle League Buddy Program

Saturday, October 27, 2007:  9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The North Metro Miracle League (NMML) provides adapted sports programs for children and adults with disabilities. NMML has several age brackets and levels of competition. If a player requires some on field assistance he or she will be teamed up with a volunteer "Buddy." The "Buddy Program" is an opportunity for children and adults to interact and share athletic and social experiences. This interaction facilitates communication, understanding, a sense of camaraderie and lasting friendships.

Spouses and children are welcome and encouraged to attend.  Remember to wear tennis shoes and your favorite sport shirt or team jersey. Volunteers under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Please visit www.nmml.net (or click on the picture at right) for more details about this organization.  If you would like to sign up for a volunteer shift, please contact Gina LaMonte.

The Home Life Department will also make a monetary donation to NMML to help support its sports program.

Happy Tails Pet Therapy

A young boy in the hospital, temporarily confined to a wheelchair due to multiple injuries, smiles for the first time in several weeks as the small dog is placed in his lap to greet him with healing kisses.  In another location, residents of an assisted living facility eagerly greet their team of regular visitors, a pair of dogs and a cat, escorted by their owners.

These are the “happy tales” that are created nearly every day in metro Atlanta when teams of Happy Tails volunteers and their pet dogs, cats and rabbits visit area hospitals, children’s programs and centers, rehabilitation centers, shelters, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, mental health facilities, respite care centers, hospice facilities, and special-needs programs.

The Home Life Department will be making a monetary donation this organization to help support pet therapy.  Please visit www.happytailspets.org for more information about this organization.
